Tango Videos

Tangokinesis is a Buenos Aires-based company of 8-10 dancers directed by choreographer Ana Maria Stekelman. The troupe has performed at the American Dance Festival, Colorado Dance Festival, Avignon Festival and Lyon Biennale de la Danse in France, the Israel Festival, and in engagements throughout Europe, Central and South America.

Since its first extended U.S. tour in the fall of 1999, Tangokinesis has performed in more than 50 cities, including engagements at the "Celebrate Buenos Aires" Festival in New York City and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In March, 2006, the company made its Canadian debut in Montreal. Ms. Stekelman, formerly the artistic director of the Ballet Contemporaneo del Teatro San Martín in Buenos Aires, formed her tango troupe in 1991. She is known for her choreography which fuses the classic tango with contemporary dance. Recent commissions have come from Oscar Arais at the Rome Opera Ballet and from Julio Bocca's troupe, Ballet Argentino. In addition, she has choreographed dances for Spanish director Carlos Suara's Oscar-nominated film, "Tango," for which she was presented the "American Choreography Award" by the Academy of Dance on Film in Los Angeles
